How many arenas are as well known as Madison Square Garden?
This multipurpose arena in downtown Manhattan is a landmark in its own right and is also host to some of the biggest events in the city. There have been other locations with the name, but the current Madison Square Garden is a facility with seating for over 20,000 spectators, depending on the event. It is estimated that if the facility was built from the ground up today it would cost nearly 1.5 billion dollars.
Events at Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden is the home of the New York Knicks basketball team, the New York Liberty women's NBA team, and the New York Rangers hockey team.
Additionally, it hosts big name concerts and can be used as a conference facility. There is an on-site theater used for smaller shows, giving the facility more flexibility. Over the years, Madison Square Garden has hosted circuses, an appearance by Elvis Presley, presidential conventions, and the Ice Capades.
Things to Do at Madison Square Garden
While its use as an arena and concert venue is the big draw, there is plenty to see and do. There are many top name restaurants on site, snack options, gift shops, and art displays.
Getting to The Garden
Like most places in downtown Manhattan, it is very hard to drive yourself to the facility. However, there is plenty of public transportation to MSG. Located directly on top of the Pennsylvania Station, the train is the easiest way for most people to get to the Garden. There are also nearby bus routes and it is possible to walk from certain other locations in Manhattan.
For many, no trip to New York is complete without stopping by Madison Square Garden. Whether you are a basketball fan, concert attendee, or you just want to experience one of the city's most famous venues, MSG is a place that must be experienced to fully appreciate.
