Match Race Germany 2007
Langernargen, Germany

Weather conditions that delayed the start of the Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robins were replicated on Friday at the ISAF Grade WC Match Race German, stage 7 of the 2006-07 World Match Racing Tour. However nothing was going to deter Rudi MAGG getting the races in and with a late breeze at 19:00 all teams were called back to the water.

It was a testing day for Group A2 skippers and their crews on the waters of Lake Constance on day two of Match Race Germany. Markus WIESER (GER), Staffan LINDBERG (FIN), Ian WILLIAMS (GBR), Bjorn HANSEN (SWE), Paolo CIAN (ITA) and Michael HESTBEAK (DEN) all faced soaring temperatures and light wind conditions, which meant up until the later restart at 19:00, all competitors bar WIESER and HANSEN had only completed one race.

WIESER looked comfortable on home waters in race 1 and was able to secure his first win of the regatta against European Champion LINDBERG of Finland. 'It was a fair race and we look forward to the improving conditions that are forecast for the next few days,' said WIESER. He went on to win his second race against HANSEN

World Match Race Tour leader and world #1 Ian WILLIAMS (GBR) lost his opening match to HANSEN, who made the better of the tricky conditions on offer in their race to secure the point. An upbeat WILLIAMS said, 'I'm looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into some proper racing as soon as conditions improve.'

Team Shosholoza helmsman, CIAN was victorious on Friday, showing some more of his recent America's Cup form to beat HESTBEAK in race 3.

Wind Arrives

As the late breeze arrive MAGG sent out instructions for all teams to be called back to the water to complete as many races as possible. The conditions allowed CIAN to display more of his winning form and he walked away with three wins at the end of racing. WILLIAMS, LINDBERG and HESTBEAK all finished the day with a win each.

In the leaderboard standings, Sébastien COL (FRA), Eric MONNIN (SUI) and CIAN all lead the way with three wins and no losses.

Racing is scheduled to resume Saturday morning around 09:00, weather permitting.

Off The Water

For the teams that were left shoreside the day was spent competing against each other in smaller yachts, those of a model kind. The 4 by 8 metre basin supplied by Stockmaritime and sponsored by insurers Versicherungsbüro Speth has created a huge interest from both visitors and competitors alike.

As visitor numbers have gradually risen during the course of the past two days all praise is being credited to the event organizers Speedwave, Visioneo and Langenargen Yacht Club.
