Ulsan PWA World Cup 2007
Ulsan, Korea

At long last, the 2007 Slalom 42 title race is almost open. And where better for a new season to start than a sparkling new tour stop like Ulsan, Korea? The event, in association with the Ulsan Broadcasting Corporation, runs from 5-12 May. A new location, and a €45K prize purse has certainly lured the top players of the PWA's exclusive race discipline to compete in the tropical waters, and seasonal trade winds at Jinha beach, in the Sea of Japan.

Already on the entry list are emphatic 2006 World Champion Antoine ALBEAU (FRA), last year's determined runner up Micah BUZIANIS (USA), all-round threat Kevin PRITCHARD (USA), world speed record holder Finian MAYNARD (IVB) and total windsurfing legend Bjorn DUNKERBECK (NED).

There are also a few surprise entries. Making a welcome return from a lengthy injury lay-off is racing specialist Wojtek BRZOZOWSKI (POL) and a name more familiar from the wave and freestyle scene, Robby SWIFT (GBR), who actually started his competitive career as a youth racer.

In the women's fleet there's a strong contingent of Asian-based racers, many of whom are making their PWA debuts, including Koreans Young Mi CHOI and Yun Hee LIM. They will line up alongside the likes of the strongest competitor in the history of the women's sport, Karin JAGGI (SUI), and fourth placed finisher in 2006, Sarah HERBERT (FRA).

After hosting several regional and national events, the Ulsan event infrastructure is certainly impressive. Now boasting full PWA status, this metropolitan city can truly showcase its windsurfing and tourism potential to the world at large.

You will be able to follow all the progress during the event at www.pwaworldtour.com with live updates, daily news summaries and more. There is also a dedicated event site at www.pwaulsan.com.

About The PWA World Tour

Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) Events are designated as ISAF Special Events. There are five main disciplines that are held on the PWA World Tour: Wave, Freestyle, Race (Slalom 42), Super X and Indoor. Competitors at each World Tour event score points towards the PWA Annual Ranking list. At the end of the season, the sailor with the highest total score in each discipline is the PWA World Champion for that year. For more information on the PWA, the events and the sailors visit the PWA website - www.pwaworldtour.com.
