Anti-Doping Information For Disabled Sailors
International Association For Disabled Sailing
Like any other high-level athlete, disabled sailors in international competitions are subject to anti-doping regulations and control.
Certain rules must be respected in order to "Play True". The Wada website at
http://www.wada-ama.org/ has a wealth of information and can be read in over 20 languages.
The home page contains quick links to the prohibited list of substances, which includes certain medications that even relatively young disabled athletes are susceptible to take.
This list is available in PDF format further down the page and an iPhone application that can be downloaded for free.
There is also a link to the therapeutic use exemption forms and guidelines. This form must be filled by any athlete taking prohibited substances for a justified medical condition.
Compared to previous years, one major change for 2011 is that inhaled salbutamol taken at a therapeutic maximum dose of 1600 µg per day is authorized without submission of TUE, this is also the case for salmeterol. The other beta-2 agonists remain on the prohibited list.
