ISAF Technical Course for Coaches
Dominican Republic

ISAF is pleased to announce that the Dominican Republic has received confirmation from their National Olympic Committee that an Olympic Solidarity funded Level 1 Technical Course for Coaches has been approved and will now take place from 29 October - 4 November 2011.
The Level 1 Technical Course for Coaches is aimed at building specific coaching fundamentals that will enable the successful participants to deliver structured training courses within their country, with measureable outcomes being based on a solid foundation of newly learnt coaching skills and practical exercises. The Level 1 Coaching Course concentrates heavily on growing a coaches experiences in delivering both practical water-based and classroom sessions, presented in a variety of styles to suit all types of learner sailor.

ISAF is also very proud to announce the appointment of Spanish speaking 2010 ISAF Training Scholarship Graduate and Peruvian National Optimist Coach, Orestes Reyes alongside experienced ISAF Trainer Tom Wilson (GBR) as the nominate experts for this course. These experienced Trainers will work with the local coaches and the National Federation to make sure that a legacy is left after the course is completed. We look forward to sharing the report with you.

ISAF Training and Development Manager Dan Jaspers said of the Technical Courses, "I am very excited to be working with our member in the Dominican Republic and look forward to having a full report of this course presented at the Training and Development Seminar at our Annual Conference in Puerto Rico two days after the course has finished. The delegates at this conference will be able to speak first hand with one of the Trainers and really get to understand what we do on these courses and how they could benefit their country.

"With The Dominican Republic course being the last such event in 2011, our members need to focus on 2012 - 2016. These courses are available for all ISAF members and links with National Olympic Committees are crucial. All MNAs wishing to have funding for helping train their coaches must ask their NOCs for Application forms for 2012 - 2016 courses now. The NOCs are making their decisions as to which sports they will support in the new funding cycle before the end of this year. If you are in any doubt as to what is available then please contact me direct. I am always here to answer your questions."

These development funds in the World Programme for Coaches are direct from IOC Olympic Solidarity through the representative National Olympic Committee and if successful in applying the National Sailing Federation could benefit from:
• Between $8,000 to $12,000 per technical course for coaches.
• $15,000 for a successful Coach taking part in the 8 week ISAF Training Scholarship.
• Up to $30,000 per Development of a National Sports Structure programme.

Over the last 2 years the ISAF Training and Development Department has helped ISAF MNAs access over 1.25 Million Dollars worth of funding across the courses available. If your country is trying to grow and could benefit from these funded programmes then the links below are a good place to start.
