Rolex IMS World Championship
Capri

After a late night in the protest room, the race committee at the Rolex IMS World Championship made the decision to throw out Race #1, sailed yesterday on the Gulf of Naples.
That race began in a 4-5 knot southerly that saw a 50-degree windshift to a westerly sea breeze, as the first boats in the fleet rounded the top mark for the first time. Those boats that headed to the right side after the start found themselves in the new breeze and in a good position reaching to the mark. With the southerly and new westerly sea breeze fighting each other, the contrasting breezes were split right down the course, and provided different conditions for the fleet.

The result of the change of standings puts Talisman (Terry HUTCHINSON, helmsman) 1st, X-Prozac (Gabrielle BENUSSI, helmsman), second, and Meridiana-Italtel (Vasco VASCOTTO, helmsman) third. In the Corinthian division, Cherokee (Matteo Savelli, helmsman) moved up to 1st place.

The Rolex IMS Offshore World Championship is organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, in collaboration with the Yacht Club Capri. Since the first edition in 1999, Rolex SA has been the title sponsor of the event. A total of eleven nations are being represented at this year's World Championship. The IMS World Championship - now in its' sixth edition - are a testing ground for both new designs and proven past performers.
