Nokia Oops Cup
Helsinki

The Norwegian trimaran Academy, skippered by Knut FROSTAD, won the first race of the Nokia Oops Cup in Helsinki yesterday.
Frostad, the former skipper of the Volvo Ocean 60 djuice dragons and racing in the Nokia Oops Cup for the first time, made it clear that he does not only master monohull sailing, but big multihulls as well.

The Finnish capital offered peculiar sailing conditions for the yachts. One minute the sun was shining, followed by pouring rain the next. At the start of the first race of the day, the wind was gusting to gale force, fifteen minutes later the yachts where becalmed. But for the most of the day a fresh breeze was blowing.

"We had a good day. We experienced all sorts of conditions, but we were prepared for them. We have practiced lots of tacks, jibes and rapid sail changes, and we got to use all of our skills", a pleased Knut FROSTAD said.

Second after Academy came the local favourite TietoEnator-L'Oréal, helmed by the Finnish Olympic gold medallist Thomas JOHANSSON. That puts the two teams making their debut in the Nokia Oops Cup in the top positions after the first race. Last year's winner HiQ, skippered by Klas "Klabbe" NYLOF, came third, Gore-Tex with Magnus OLSSON finished in fourth and Nokia with skipper Stefan MYRALF was fifth.

The next event for the Nokia Oops Cup is the Stockholm City Race in central Stockholm on Saturday 5 June. The first yachts will arrive on Tuesday, and will be moored at Skeppsbron for the rest of the week.
