Soling Masters World Championship
Wilmette, IL

It was a sunny day with choppy seas at the 2004 Masters registration day yesterday. The event is being hosted by Sheridan Shore Yacht Club, and will racing kicks off today in what is forecast to be similar conditions to yesterday's practice.
With 5 to 7 knots of wind from the Northeast, Stu WALKER (USA) (81), Doug LOUP, and Andy DIZE from Annapolis showed their excellence by rounding the first mark first in the practice race yesterday. They were followed by Jim MEDLEY (USA) (63). The third team to round the mark was the Johnsson family steered by Jorgen JOHNSSON (USA) (54), Martin and friend followed closely with Joe HOEKSEMA (USA) (56), his wife Rose, and Matias COLLINS just ahead of John KENNEDY (52) and Sal AQUINAGA.

At the second mark Johnsson's team, after an excellent downind leg, rounded ahead the leaders, Walker and Medley, while Hoeksemas, in fourth place, retired from competition, leaving that place for Kennedy.

Everything changed for the next downind where Stu WALKER just re-took the lead from Jorgen JOHNSSON and with a precise recovery the Argentine team with Carlos GOZZI (54), Steve BOBO and Deak LEVENTE managed to finish fifth.

Full results from yesterday's practice race are available on the event website at the address below.
