Alexander SCHLONSKI is aware of this. The Rostock sailor, at present lying second in the overall results, cannot, even with two first places today, gain overall victory. "I am happy, even with second place. Gareth is really a super sailor, whom I have never beaten", he said with humility. Mathias RIECK from Warnemuende, Germany´s Olympic hope in the Laser, is no longer in the hunt for a top placing. He had to make do with 21 and 9 placings yesterday and starts the last day in seventh position overall. "My speed is ok, I just had bad tactics", he said after both races, which were held in difficult conditions with variable and decreasing winds.

There are already final official results in other classes. The world class sailor Mathew BELCHER (AUS), with his German crew Rike ZIEGELMAYER, clearly dominated the 420 class.

Marcus BRENNECKE, Vincent HOESCH and Markus KOY had claimed a top slot in the Dragon class from the beginning of the regatta. And the team, from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein, didn't let go the title on the last day. "Today we just sailed to cover. It was thrilling right to the end, but we held through. And we are very pleased", summarised, a happy Marcus BRENNECKE shortly before the Dragon class prizegiving. "We like the conditions here - lots of wind and waves are our strength". However, today, as it was flatter, the pursuers from Bavaria, Houdek/Hubert/Scheibmayer were left behind. The Berlin trio Semmerow/Butzmann/Scheibmeyer finished in third place.

The prizegiving of the 14 Footers was held on the beach amidst smiling faces. Jens KULENKAMPF sailed with crew Stefanie KAMKE (from Aachen). "There were excellent conditions and we really had fun here. Praise to the race officials - Warnemuende has sailing conditions to dream of", said the official German champion, Oliver VOSS, who could not take part on the last day due to a clash of timings and so ended up in second place overall.

The race for the 75 participants of the long distance race around Bornholm is in progress. They set off today and the first yachts are expected back during the night on Wednesday.
