Racing was due to start yesterday but with a lack of wind, heavy rain and thunderstorms, coupled with an issue surrounding the finish of the underside of the boards raised by the measurers, racing was postponed to today.

Following consultation with the builders all the issues were resolved and racing was due to get underway today for the 173 competitors from 29 nations. However, today has dawned with thunder lightning, rain, and no wind! It is expected to improve over the next couple of days so that racing can get underway.

Meanwhile. Lee Lai Shan (HKG) will not be among those athletes trying to qualify their nation for one of the 10 female allocations for the Olympic Games in Athens 2004, she had to withdraw from the event for medical reasons yesterday and has since returned home.

In the men's fleet, 109 athletes will be competing for 12 allocations in the Olympic Games in Athens 2004, ensuring, once racing gets underway, that it will be close, and hard fought.

Racing continues until 15 December.
