Bradford out sailed the 90-plus fleet of keelboats in blustery conditions on the first day, which caused many retirements due to damage, winning from defending World Champion, Stuart Childerley (GBR), into second place in both races.

Fellow Australian, Michael Coxon from Sydney, finished third in the first race but drops to fifth overall with a nineteenth in race two at the helm of North Sydney Station.

Dennis Conner, taking time off from his America's Cup program finished a respectable tenth in race one, following it up with a ninth in race two which gives him fourth overall going into the second day of racing tomorrow. Conner's long time rival, John Bertrand (AUS), counts a score line of 17 and 7, putting him just four points behind the American.

Cameron Thorpe (NZL) is currently lying in third place behind Childerley. There are currently six Australian sailors in the top ten results, proving a likely dominance in the Etchells Fleet.

Two races are scheduled for tomorrow with Wednesday as a lay day.
