Time is running out for young sailors to enter the RYA Zone Championships on the 26 and 27 June. Over the weekend an estimated 1200 competitors in the UK will be vying for a place in the RYA Team GBR Zone squads at championships in their local regions.
For a number of the budding sailors the championships will be their first taste of serious racing and also a unique opportunity to experience high quality sailing at a local level.
In anticipation of the announcement for the RYA Team GBR Zone Squads in November, the RYA High Performance Managers will be on hand identifying talented sailors with potential to move into the RYA Junior Programme and further their racing skills.
The event is open to young sailors whether they are new to racing or have previously been members of RYA National Junior squads. The racing will take place in six English zones across the country in Toppers, Optimists, Mirrors, Cadets, Windsurfers and a Handicap class.
Duncan TRUSWELL, RYA National Junior Squads Manager said
'The zone championships offer young sailors a fantastic opportunity to compete in well organised racing on a local basis and under the watchful eyes of RYA staff and coaches, keen to find the next wave of talent'.
