ISAF IJ Instructors Seminar
Southampton

Held from 5-6 October in the ISAF Offices in Southampton, the meetings were a perfect opportunity for IJ instructors to exchange and discuss experiences gleaned from running over 20 seminars and clinics throughout the world since the last meeting in 2001.
9 of the 13 instructors met to discuss a number of matters including a review of the Seminar and Clinic programme, the development of teaching material, the IJ written test and the development of protest conclusions.

It was noted that National Authorities should be encouraged to apply for clinics prior to hosting a seminar, especially in those countries where judges have fewer opportunities of acquiring international judging experience at a high level.

An important part of the application process for prospective International Judges is the written test. Each and every question on this test must be analysed in for what it adds to the overall test in terms of difficulty.

Over the two days in Southampton the instructors present all took the test. As a result, some questions were then modified, or reworded to make them more immediate and easily understandable for the candidates. In some cases the wording was changed to more "plain English" on the basis of the feedback from past tests.
