Perth, Australia

Eleven athletes from developing nations have arrived in Fremantle, Perth for the fifth Emerging Nations Programme to be held from 13 October to 2 November 2010 at the Fremantle Sailing Club.
Familiar faces returning to Perth to continue their development and take the next step towards achieving their Olympic dream include Laser sailors from Moldova, Cook Islands, India, Trinidad and Tobago, Peru and Columbia and RS-X sailors from Chinese Taipei, Pakistan and Philippines. New athletes include Santiago Grillo from Colombia and Andrea Aldana from Guatemala.
The gruelling 21 day programme will see the athletes participate in three different areas of development; physical training, racing development and theoretical knowledge. During the first week of the camp Olympic Gold Medallist coach, Belinda Stowell, a sport and fitness fanatic with boundless energy, together with Olympic Coach, Arthur Brett, will push the fitness boundaries of each athlete through strenuous gym sessions and on water trainings.

Rohini Rao from India is excited to come back to Perth for her third camp to further improve her sailing skills and fitness. "I am looking forward to testing my own performance during the Perth International Regatta and finding out how my results compare against the best athletes in the world." After the Perth International Regatta, Rohini will continue to improve her World Ranking by competing at Sail Melbourne, the first regatta of the 2010-11 ISAF Sailing World Cup.

The fitness focus will then shift during the second week of the camp as athletes prepare for the Perth International Regatta, 16 to 21 November 2010, where more than 200 boats from 37 nations will test the conditions off Fremantle in preparation for next year's World Championship.

Emerging Nations Coach, Belinda Stowell, said "It is an incredibly rewarding experience to work with these athletes and give them access to the skills and knowledge required to perform on the world circuit. These athletes are committed to working hard and putting in everything they have to live their Olympic dreams."

As part of the camp finale, Emerging Nations Laser sailors will compete in the City of Perth Sailing Regatta. The racing will be held in front of Barrack Street in the City of Perth at 13:00 (local time) on Sunday 24 October 2010. The competition will be a chance for the athletes to prove their skills and talent to the coaches and gain recognition towards the "TAG Heuer Rising Star Award". This prestigious award will be presented at the completion of the seventh camp for the star sailor across the entire program.
