ALTER CUP BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

The U.S. Multihull Championship, a.k.a. the Alter Cup, is starting this weekend in Clearwater, Florida. The event will continue through April 11 and is hosted by the Clearwater Community Sailing Center and the Clearwater Yacht Club. Go to www.ussailing.org/alter for race details.

ROLEX NEXT STEP PROGRAM AT ROLEX IWKC

The 2003 Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship (Rolex IWKC) Outreach Committee invites junior women sailors to participate in the Rolex Next Step Program, September 26-28 in Annapolis, Md. The event will be held in conjunction with the Rolex IWKC, part of US SAILING's adult championship series, to be held September 27-October 3 at the Annapolis Yacht Club (AYC). Junior women sailors, 13 to 19 years old, should write, in 250 words or less, what they enjoy about sailing, their sailing experiences, and what they think they will gain from spending a weekend at the opening of the Rolex IWKC. PAN AM TEAM NEEDS COACH

The Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC) of US SAILING, national governing body for the sport, is looking for a volunteer coach to support the athletes it will send to the XIV Pan American Games, scheduled for August 1-17, 2003, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The U.S. has qualified to enter all nine events featured in the sailing competition which will be staged from the Santo Domingo Yacht Club: Laser (men) and Mistral (men and women), and the non-Olympic Laser Radial (women), Hobie 16, J/24, Lightning, Snipe and Sunfish (all open). SAILING PRIMER ON WEBSITE

US SAILING's educational website has posted a sailing primer for those who have never sailed before. The primer consists of 16 sections and five videos which discuss the basics of sailing. It is presented in both HTML and Microsoft Producer Format. The MS Producer format is a multi-media video format which combines video and a PowerPoint Presentation. At the end of the section there is a 10 question test for the beginning sailor. The site may be viewed at www.sailingusa.info/primer_text.htm
