Fleet Shelter From Big Breeze

Tasaki Osaka Cup
Melbourne - Osaka

Winds of 40-50 knots face the fleet on the New South Wales coast. Maverick II and Kontrol and an increasing number of the fleet are now in the lee of Gabo Island, the northern guardian of Australia's toughest piece of water Bass Strait.
Kontrol and Maverick II last night poked their bows out past Gabo and turned back in gale force conditions. They are sheltering 9 miles south west of Gabo Island with The Wizard, Louise, LuLu, Plantronics, Mad Max, Team FGI and X-Dream. The balance of the fleet is sailing up to the same area.

Current wind speed reported from Gabo Island Light house is 25 knots but local winds of 40-45knots for the NSW coast will make it a tough day at the office.

While this happening the Buffalo Boys No Fearr and Matrix and Beyond Outrageous are now 150-180 miles to the east south east well outside the East Australian current and well clear of the winds concentrating on the corner.

For the balance of the fleet, it will be a race restart perhaps late tonight. However they will have little re-spite as the southerly change will turn the coastal waters into a wind against tide washing machine.
