Bullot didn't need to compete in the final race of the regatta finishing 22 points ahead of second place-getter Blair MCLAY. The result follows a win at Sail Auckland last weekend and a strong regatta at Sail Melbourne in early January, where Bullot was the top Kiwi performer. He will be hoping to continue his form into the ISAF Grade 1 Laser Asia Pacific Regatta commencing in Wellington on Thursday.

Yachting New Zealand National Coach, Ian NEELY describes Bullot's impressive performance.

'Michael completely out-sailed the rest of the Laser fleet. His competitors are saying the same thing. He sailed smart, he sailed fast and was just consistently good throughout. He is still showing the benefits of travelling to compete in the Australian regattas and getting the trans-Tasman competition.'

Second place-getter Blair MCLAY, at 18 years-old is still eligible to compete at the ISAF Youth World Championships in 2005 and finishing so high in the New Zealand Open fleet bodes well for his future. McLay also sailed well in Melbourne finishing eighth in the Open Laser fleet showing he is well and truly in the league of the more senior sailors.

Laser Radial

New Zealand women made a clean sweep on the podium in the Laser Radial fleet beating current World Champion, Australian Krystal WEIR and a number of men to take out the top spots. Jo ALEH of Kohimarama Yacht Club in Auckland clocked up more race wins over the ten race contest but two-time Olympian and Kohi club-mate Sarah MACKY came in three points ahead with more consistent results.

The Laser Radial replaces the Europe as the single-handed women's equipment and will make its debut at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Yachting New Zealand's High Performance Manager, Peter LESTER is encouraged by the depth of the Radial fleet.

'Three of our hot young sailors beating the current World Champ; it's fantastic! Macky is showing her sailing credentials by getting out of a Europe and back into a Radial and winning National regattas. She won Sail Auckland just recently and no doubt she'll be a force to be reckoned with in Wellington at the Asia Pacifics as well.'
