Sail for HOPE

SingaporeSailing is initiating a fund raising programme within its sailing fraternity to contribute towards the relief efforts.
There follows an open letter to the Singapore Sailing Community:

'The tsunami which created havoc in our neighbouring countries and other parts of South Asia also affected a number of our friends and colleagues here and abroad.

In a recent meeting, initiated by me and coordinated through the SSC, the sporting fraternity in Singapore agreed to combine our efforts to generate a common fund which will go towards helping in the relief operation under taken by many disaster relief organizations. Following the meeting, the NSA's agreed to organize individual fund raising events within its own fraternity and the proceeds of which would then be pooled and presented to the Singapore Red Cross Society under the banner of Team Singapore. Two such presentation would be made; first on the 18 January and the next at the end of February 2005.

Our first fund raising effort in support of the tsunami disaster relief fund will be an event titled 'Sail for HOPE' to be held 16 January 2005 at 1300 hours. Participants at the event will be asked to seek donation pledges from well-wishers. Launched from the National Sailing Centre our sailors would then be required to sail through a set course. The completion of the course will entitle you to collect the pledges for donation to the fund. We strongly urge you to come forward and support us in this effort.

Please collect your pledge forms from the SingaporeSailing office at the NSC.

When donating by cheques, please make them payable to 'Singapore Sailing Federation' with Sail for HOPE written behind plus your name and contact number.

The second fund raising event will be a SAILathon, the details of which will be announced later.

We aim to raise some $10,000 from the sailing fraternity and we look forward to your generous support.

Yours in Sailing,

Teo Ping LOW
President, SingaporeSailing'
