Championnat de France de Match Racing 2005
La Grande Mottee, France

Philippe LEGROS was a surprise winner of the Championnat de France de Match Racing 2005 in la Grande Mottee after favourite, Dimitri DURUELLE faded in the second half of the competition.
LEGROS, 78 in the ISAF World Match Race Rankings, and his team of Steven LIORZIOU, Etieenne SVILARICH and Jean Marie PINSON defeated Erwan ISRAEL in the final two-nil. In the third-place match DERUELLE won by the same score over Florent GAGGERO.

DERUELLE was the highest ranked sailor in the event at 27 in the latest rankings of 23 March and started the competition strongly with five victories out of five in the group A round robin. However, after the competition was narrowed down to a final round robin between six competitors DERUELLE could only manage victories over LEGROS and GAGGERO leaving him third in the rankings and out of the final.

LEGROS made up for his defeat by DERUELLE by winning his other four flights and then repeating his round robin victory over ISRAEL.
