The Flanders Youth Regatta 2005
Nieuwpoort, Belgium

Hundreds of young sailors will descend on the Belgian town of Nieuwpoort this summer for the 17th Flanders Youth Regatta, held from 2-6 July.
The three yacht clubs of Nieuwpoort, a town which lies in the north west of Belgium close to the border with France, will be hosting the regatta and sailing will take place in the coastal waters of the North Sea.

The Flanders Youth Regatta is a part of the Nieuwpoortweek 2005. The Notice of Race and Entry Form for this event are now available online on the Nieuwpoort Week Website.

For five days top international sailing youths (23 years old or less) will be competing on the North Sea off Nieuwpoort, hoping to obtain a podium place in this year's regatta.

This year there will sailing in eight different events using the Optimist, Cadet, 420, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Laser, Splash and Europe. With the youngest competitors in the Optimist class just eight years old.

During the afternoon of the first day of the regatta event organizers are hoping to set a new record with 1,000 boats at sea off the coast of Nieuwpoort.

Racing will then continue until 6 July to decide the winners in each event.
