Founded in 1991 and recognised by ISAF since 1998, IMOCA is the class association, which takes care of 60-foot Open monohulls (18.28 metres). With more than thirty skippers signed up, its championship includes two round the world races (Vendée Globe which is singlehanded and Barcelona World Race which is doublehanded), a round Europe race and several ocean races.

Ocean Masters est une nouvelle marque de l'univers du sport, une nouvelle marque héroïque faite pour des héros. C'est le nouveau nom du Championnat du Monde de la classe IMOCA. C'est une quête pour élire le nouveau « Maître des Mers ». Le Championnat du Monde sera décerné tous les deux ans, pour la première fois en 2015.
Le Championnat du Monde « Ocean Masters » inclut la totalité du programme d'événements auxquels participe la classe IMOCA, y compris les deux courses autour du monde - le Vendée Globe et la Barcelona World Race -- et plusieurs courses océaniques telles que la Route du Rhum, la Transat Jacques Vabre et la Rolex Fasnet.
