Kieler Woche 2009 from 20-28 June will start with the Olympic sailing events and finish with racing in the International classes in the second half of the week.
The reason for this swap of the 2009 Kieler Woche schedule is the inclusion of the newly launched ISAF Sailing World Cup, thus offering the competitors in the Olympic sailing events better tune-up possibilities.
"We want to contribute to the development and modern concept of the international sport of sailing within future Kieler Woche regatta events. 2009 will be the premiere of the inclusion of the ISAF World Sailing Cup into Kieler Woche, and we strive for best conditions for all competitors," explained Jobst RICHTER, Chairman of the Kieler Woche Race Committee.
"Consequently, we shall start Kieler Woche 2009 with the Olympic classes and add an additional tune-up day on Friday 19 June, offering an extra practice race," he added.
The organizers of Kieler Woche 2009 are prepared for the arrival of several ambitious competitors from the Olympic sailing circuit from Wednesday 17 June. Early arrivals will have the advantage of extra preparation as they aim for valuable ISAF Sailing World Cup points as well as the Kieler Woche titles. The starting gun for the first race will be fired on all race courses at 11:00 on Saturday 20 June.
The Olympic sailing part of Kieler Woche 2009/ISAF World Sailing Cup will finish on Wednesday 24 June after a total of five race days.
From 25-28 June, the competitors of the International classes will compete and race for victory in Kieler Woche 2009.
