Varg re-Launched - Tasmania |
Yesterday, after a very extensive restoration at the Wilson yard in Tasmania, the 1924 Johan Anker designed & build Int. 8-Metre Varg was launched again.
This Int. 8-Metre was originally built for Frithjof Larson, a prominent member of KNS in Norway. Carolyn & Kraig Carlstrom bought her in derelict condition many moons ago and commissioned a full & authentic restoration with what has to be one of the finest wooden boat yards in the Southern hemisphere. The planking was done in Huon pine which should make anyone who knows his timbers mouthwatering envious as that is quite simply the best boatbuilding timber to be found on our planet, however the supply is extremely scarce and handed out only to those yards & projects that truly deserve it.
In the coming days her mast will be stepped and the riggers will do their thing and then once again this great Eight will sail again. No doubt Johan Anker will be watching with a great wide grin on his face.
Congratulations & well done Carolyn & Kraig, well done Wilson brothers, the Int. 8-Metre Class applauds your efforts and dedication.
Wishing you many miles of joyful sailing with this wonderful yacht !
