DB Schenker can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50 percent in ocean transport.

We all know container ships as a symbol of globalization, but now they also stand for global climate protection. DB Schenker can shift non-time-critical cargo to speed reduced services, and a mere 15 percent drop in speed saves up to 30 percent of carbon dioxide emissions in the overall balance.

Reducing emissions right up to the last mile
A significant portion of the carbon emissions connected to maritime transport is actually generated on land through overland transport between the ports and the hinterland terminals. Wherever possible, DB Schenker therefore tries to move inland transport from road to more environmentally friendly rail. This reduces emissions by up to 80 percent on this part of the route and by ca. 20 percent in the overall balance.
