Pulp Fiction, ou Fiction pulpeuse au Québec, est un film de gangsters américain réalisé par Quentin Tarantino et sorti en 1994. Utilisant la technique de narration non linéaire, il entremêle plusieurs histoires ayant pour protagonistes des membres de la pègre de Los Angeles et se distingue par ses dialogues stylisés, son mélange de violence et d'humour et ses nombreuses références à la culture populaire. Sa distribution principale se compose notamment de John Travolta, dont la carrière a été relancée par ce film, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis et Uma Thurman.
Il a été récompensé par la Palme d'or au Festival de Cannes 1994, ainsi que par l'Oscar du meilleur scénario original l'année suivante, et a été un succès aussi bien critique que commercial, établissant ainsi définitivement la réputation de Tarantino. Il est, selon le classement établi en 2007 par l'AFI, le 94ᵉ meilleur film américain de tous les temps. L'AFI le classe également à la 7ᵉ place de sa liste des meilleurs films de gangsters. En 2013, le film est sélectionné par le National Film Registry pour être conservé à la Bibliothèque du Congrès aux États-Unis pour son « importance culturelle, historique ou esthétique ».
Le film revendique son artificialité et est considéré comme l'un des principaux représentants du cinéma postmoderne. Usual Suspects est un film américain réalisé par Bryan Singer et sorti en 1995. Utilisant une technique de narration non linéaire, le film suit l'interrogatoire mené par l'agent Kujan auprès d'un petit malfaiteur infirme nommé Verbal Kint. Celui-ci est l'un des deux seuls survivants à un massacre commis la veille à bord d'un cargo, à quai dans le port de Los Angeles. Par le biais de nombreux flashbacks, Kint narre l'enchaînement d'événements complexes qui l'ont mêlé, lui et quatre autres malfrats, à cette mystérieuse affaire derrière laquelle se trouverait le légendaire criminel Keyser Söze.
L'idée de départ utilisée par Christopher McQuarrie pour écrire le scénario du film est celle de cinq criminels réunis pour une parade d'identification. Le film, après quelques difficultés pour trouver un financement, a été tourné en à peine un mois avec un budget de 6 millions de dollars.
Il a été présenté hors-compétition au festival de Cannes 1995 et a été bien accueilli par le public et la critique. Il a remporté plusieurs récompenses, dont l'Oscar du meilleur scénario original et l'Oscar du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle pour Kevin Spacey. En 2003, le personnage de Verbal Kint est classé à la 48ᵉ place de la liste des 50 meilleurs méchants de l'American Film Institute qui, en 2008, classe également le film à la 10ᵉ place de sa liste des meilleurs films à suspense.
