It is with great sadness that we pass on the news that Lynne Cockerill passed away peacefully yesterday with her family at her side (Wednesday 19th June).  The family as a whole have all given so much to British Sailing and the Topper Class in particular.  Dave is GBR Topper coach and has been instrumental in develping the Topper as a racing boat. His son Adam sailed Toppers as a child and is now a GBR Intermediate squad coach.

Many people might have met Lynne (wife and mother respectively) at events, or coaching, over the years as they travelled extensively in their camper van, or may have spoken to her if they had been in contact with the family business, Sailing Solutions. Lynne’s smile will live on in our hearts forever, and all of our most sincere thoughts and best wishes are with Dave, Adam, Jackie and Hannah at this time.

The family have expressed their profound thanks for the tremendous support they have received over the recent period and with so many people keen to express their condolences, they have set up a memorial website page for thoughts / stories / memories that you may wish to share with the family about Lynne.  This can be found at http://lynne.cockerill.muchloved.com. I know they would love to hear them.

Attending the GBR Topper British Nationals?

If anyone is bringing a rib can they please let Andy Millington know (ribmaster©gbrtopper.co.uk) so he can reserve a pontoon spot and get rib owners properly involved.

Did anyone find a bag of Straps left behind at the Ulsters?

The straps were last seen in an LIDL bad in the field. There should be an orange and a red rachet and a lovely new navy rachet. If found please contact oisinehannan@eircom.net.  Many Thanks!

The first Topper Traveller of 2013 took place in on 19 May in the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire.  It had been postponed form March because of storm force winds.  The forecast on this occasion was nearly the opposite, and we were afraid we might have been becalmed. But there was a nice breeze, and a lovely sunny day in Dublin Bay for a nearly record 49 boats at a first traveller of the season.

Hi To All Topper Sailors,

This year the ISA have decided to set up a Topper Leinster Squad in conjunction with the Irish Topper Association. We have 2 coaching weekends set up this side of Christmas and another 2 before the ISA Nationals at Easter. The Topper Association is holding Open Training on the first of these weekends,  on the 3rd and 4th of November in Blessington Sailing Club where the Leinster squad will be picked for the following sessions. The Topper Association proposes to run Open Training on the same subsequent weekends as the Leinster Squad , using the same venue as the squad where possible. The other weekends will be 1/2 December, 16/17 February, 9/10 March. Our main coach for the weekend will be Alan Ruigrok.

This coaching weekend is open to all Topper sailors and is a great chance for club sailors to get some top coaching and a good chance to get on to the ISA Topper Leinster Squad.

Sailors attending need to have their boats rigged for 10.30 a.m. on Saturday.  They don’t have to be changed into their sailing gear but they do need to be ready for briefing at 10.30 a.m. sharp

Toppers Wanted Urgently

The Topper Association has been approached by a number of sailors/parents who want to move into the  Topper Class, but are having difficulty in finding Toppers for sale. If you have a Topper you are considering selling, or might be moving out of the Topper yourself at the end of the season, would you consider putting an ad on the Topper website asap? A number of sailors are trying to get toppers to do winter training, and/or to do the remaining events of the season.

Please contact me directly (mgtodnl@gmail.com) if you want to discuss further.

Best wishes Margaret Kneafsey Chairman IRL Topper

Congratulations & Welcome Home to the Irish sailors at the Topper Worlds !

Following a successful event in Holland the Irish team has returned home. The Irish results were excellent with lots of sailors showing top form and also promise for the future.

Many of the newer topper sailors had fantasic results in the Silver Fleet and the Gold fleet sailors did us proud with Doug Power (5th overall), Erica Ruigrok (22nd) and Liam Glynn (27th) in the top 30.

If anyone has an event report or photos can you send them on please.
