The wind was very light today for most of the day, and the time when the thermal wind normally fills in passed without any increase in the wind strength. Eight heats were completed in the morning in a very light breeze.

Finally at 17:15 local time a moderate easterly wind filled in and the teams went back onto the water to continue racing. Another 11 heats were completed in the second session today. The wind began quite strong, around 10 knots, from the East, but died after around one hour when the rain came over. This forced racing to be abandoned after heat 31, at 18:45 local time.

In the second session there were virtually no upsets to the form book, with only one team seeded lower beating a team higher, and that was GBR 2 beating AUS 1 in heat 31. In fact so far during the whole championship only seven heats have gone against the seeding. SVK and POL had the closest heat, with SVK causing one of the POL boats to do turns just before the finish, although it had looked like POL would win for most of the race.

The main strategy seems to be to get your boats into position 1 and 2, because then of course if they finish there then it is not possible for the other team to beat you, even if your third boat finishes in 6 position (last). This is because a team must score ten points or under total to win a heat.

New Zealand have become the first team to defeat either of the USA teams, still it's early stages, with another Round Robin planned and then the quarter finals, semi finals, and finals on Saturday.

I spoke to team GBR 1 captain Stuart Hudson after their heat 17 victory over SVK:

How are you finding the racing?
That was good we won that one. It's very light and shifty, and very patchy out there. There is only a few knots of wind, maybe five knots in the gusts. The race is really not over until you finish. It makes it more interesting because if the wind is steady, and you get two boats in first and second then that team is pretty certain to win. But, here with the shifting wind the losing team can come back still, so it makes the racing better in a way. It's a very good standard of racing this year. I think everyone has been practicing a lot. The US are looking the most strong at the moment. I think they are unbeaten. The Irish are going good as well.
