Lima, who two weeks ago finished runner up in the World Championship in Ireland, said, "yesterday the shifts had no pattern and were difficult to read. Today was lighter winds (5 to 8 knots) but the shifts had a pattern." Lima's results were bettered only by Frederick Lassenius (SWE) who scored a first and second place in his group races.

Overnight leader, Peer Moberg, had a poor start in his first race and rounded the first mark 9th from last. He was pleased to recover 34 places to finish ninth. In his second race he was better placed at the first mark in fifth position, which he maintained to the finish. Moberg said, "It was ok and there is a long way to go". He still keeps the overall lead on a tie break from Lassenius with Diego Negri (ITA) only a point behind.

Britain's Ed Wright was looking good after his first race of the day, which he won. In his second race the wheels fell off when in the words of his coach "He started gambling to catch up, instead of using his speed to pick up a few places at a time."

Tim Hulse from Great Britain opened up a comfortable overall lead in the youth fleet after all the top sailors had a mixed set of results. His 7th and 1st places were the best of the day when the other 3 race winners scored double figure results in their other group race. More significantly overnight leader Tobias Schadewalt (GER) could only manage a 24th and 14th.

Hulse had a bad start in the first race but pulled up to fourth at the first mark. He dropped 3 places on the next windward, which he could not recover downwind. In his second race he was leading at the first mark and then had an exciting dual with Sergei Diasykevitch from Belarus. Diasykevitch, who won the Laser event at the European Youth Olympics in Spain, took Hulse on the last downwind leg and led him round the last mark. Hulse then engaged the Belarussian in an exciting tacking match.

Hulse said "I am not sure how I got caught him as it all happened so quickly. Just before the finish I was on starboard tack as we were crossing each other. He ducked me when he probably should have lee-bowed me and I was able to tack on top of him and just foot over him as we crossed the line. Overall a good result as it was quite shifty. I am happy to keep consistent in the top ten. It was hard upwind but good fun especially when you get it right"
