There were no more races on Saturday, 31 July, the last sailing day of the 115th Travemuende Week and so the first placed of the day before became the overall winners. The party on the festival mile along the Trave shores will be going ahead at full speed, though.

Many a competitor in the twelve classes may have well liked to have another go. Not so the pre-mature winners: "I wouldn't mind if there were no more races today", Simon GROTELUESCHEN had said just minutes before race director Walter MIELKE at 12.45 h announced the final cancellation of all races - and then his arms flew up in the air. For 17-year-old Grotelueschen, the announcement meant that he had just seized the first Travemuende victory of his still fresh career in the Olympic Laser class.

The tall and most talented boy from local Luebeck Yacht Club quickly dismantled his boat named Esprit. "After the many regattas in the last weeks, I am flat out", explained the fifth placed of the Junior European Championships of the week before, "Now I first need to charge up my batteries." His home win in Travemuende was the highlight of a most successful season so far, in which he won the bronze medal at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in Gdynia, Poland.
