There was beautiful sunshine, contrary to the weather forecast, although it was rather cold, and there was a consistent southeast wind from sunrise until 1300 hours local time. Consequently there was no way to start the race at the 1100 scheduled time. Finally, the wind did the expected 180° turn, offering a light and difficult to read northwest pattern of five to ten knots, however, it was not easy to position the line under these conditions. After a general recall, a successful start under black flag rule was given at 1435, which had Mario SALANI and Stefano LILLIA (ITA) and Matthias MILLER and Fritiof KLEEN (GER) leaving the course as black flag victims.

Half way up the first beat, it was evident, that the bad starters had the better end compared to the favourites' group, which after having taken the right side of the course was easily passed by a number of teams which did not show up in the top ranks in race one. However, race one winners STANJEK and KOY and yesterday's third place team, Marin LOVROVIC junior and Marin LOVROCIV senior (CRO) did the right tacks to start chasing the surprising leader, the organizing club's Kurt and Markus SCHEIDEGGER (SUI), who had finished 31 in race one. The Swiss team successfully defended their lead over almost the whole course, finally finishing second, just behind STANJEK and KOY but ahead of LOVROVIC junior and senior.

Behind these constantly leading three boats, Paulo SEVESTRE and Vincent BERENGIER (FRA), Maurice O'CONNELL and Ed PEEL (IRL), Hubert MERKELBACH and Dirk MEISSNER (GER), the GEREBEN brothers (HUN) and Henrik DANNESBOE and Ramis FAYZULLIN (SUI) added some low numbers to their race one results and are now all within seven points of each other on the leaderboard, but nine points behind the leading duo.

The local favorite and runners up in the 2004 World Championship, Flavio MARAZZI and Magnus LILLJEDAHL (SUI), had a poor start and had to work hard to get through the fleet, finally finishing 13. After Monday's DNF the pair now find themselves 37 on the leaderboard.

Also suffering down the leaderboard are 1996 Finn Olympic gold medallist, Mateusz KUSZNIEREWICZ and his new crew Dominick ZYCKI (POL) and José GARCIA DE SOTO and Alvaro ELARZE (ESP) who got a DNE yesterday for finishing the race after having been blackflagged.

Today, race three is scheduled to start at 1100 with the forecast again very bad, with rain and more cold weather predicted. rainy and cold.
