International Foundation for Disabled Sailing
Leicester

Over the past weekend, 17-18 April 2004, the IFDS Executive Board met in Leicester, United Kingdom.
Whilst a wide range of issues were discussed, main topics included changes to be made to the Functional Classification System (FCS) - which is the method by which sailors' abilities are assessed to ensure fair competition, and the Race Management Manual (RMM) - which provides rules and guidelines on the organisation of disabled sailing events, for introduction after the 2004 Paralympic Sailing Regatta on 1 January 2005.

Focusing on the need to make the sport more accessible to severely disabled sailors, the Board considered the future disabled sailing events in the Paralympic Regatta and received evaluation reports on the two experimental regattas, the IFDS Single-Person Dinghy World Championship and IFDS Two-Person Keelboat World Championship, at which equipment suitable for severely disabled sailors had been used.

The minutes will be published on the disabled sailing section of the disabled sailing website.
