Introduction

The Solo Fleet is the most active and dominant fleet sailing at South Cerney Sailing Club (SCSC) and it is so easy to be part of it!

You don't need to be muscle bound to sail a Solo. In fact, it is best sailed using brain rather than brawn. It's a great single-hander for beginners who don't want to be permanently wet to experienced helms that want to race.

At SCSC we have Solo sailors whose ages span four decades, and who sail boats that have cost anything from £150 to over £6,000. There's a wealth of knowledge and advice in the Club, and this is supported by regular training events for Solo owners. This makes for a very sociable and friendly class with just the right level of competitive spirit and banter.

Solo sailing gives much pleasure to many. Some enjoy going out for a cruise, whilst others enjoy very close and competitive racing.

The Solo fleet is one of the most active and dominant racing fleets in the Club with all of the senior trophies except 1 now sitting in a Soloist’s trophy cabinet. There are events for all levels of expertise from novice to expert. We have our own class starts and our own series throughout the year. In October, we host the final race meeting in the Solo Western Area series.

Training also forms a major part of the years activities with events organised in everything from boat set up and Maintenance, racing tactics and strategy.  The training is conducted by fellow club Solo helms like Phil Milanes (of Milanes Foils fames), Andy Miles (former boat builder and very handy helm, he wins everything) along with many others who are regularly taking top results in the racing.

Come along and find out what we are all about.
