2014 GP14 Worlds

In August 2014, East Down Yacht Club, Co Down,  will host the GP14 World Championships. This will see one of the largest one-design dinghy fleets ever to compete on the magnificent waters of Strangford Lough, with several world-class dinghy sailors competing for the top prizes.   

The GP14 has been a popular general purpose dinghy throughout Ireland and GB for over 60 years, with fleets also in Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa and the USA.

BEM for Geraldine!

Belfast Lough Sailability (BLS) is delighted to hear that BLS Volunteer Geraldine Duggan has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year’s Honour’s list for her work with our group.  We are also proud and honoured that one of our valued volunteers has been given this recognition so well deserved.

AWARD FOR ASPIRING LOCAL SAILOR

Aspiring young sailor Amy Armstrong from Whitehead has been recognised by the John Merricks Sailing Trust, in the inaugural year of an exciting new scheme.

Amy learnt to sail and was encouraged to race at County Antrim Yacht Club (RYANI Club of the Year 2013)and was selected from almost a hundred applications after competing in the RYA Northern Ireland Zone Championships at Ballyholme in September.

Amy is delighted to receive the boat, "This is a massive boost to my future sailing ambitions to receive this boat, and it will be beneficial to other young sailors in my local club."
