Powerboat Level 2 (ICC) Course

RYA powerboat  level 2 course including ICC (International Certificate of Competence) from Brighton Marina

This course offers a huge range of skills necessary for owning or hiring a powerboat both in the UK or abroad. This RYA powerboating training course covers high speed handling, manoeuvring and essential information on safety and how to use basic equipment.

Course Content Includes:
  • Launching & Recovery
  • Confined Space Manoeuvering
  • Mooring
  • Man Overboard Procedure
  • Anchoring
  • Towing
  • Engine Checks
  • High Speed Handling
  • Collision Regulations
  • Buoyage
  • Basic Chart Work
  • Tides
  • Communication Afloat
  • Emergency Procedures
On the first morning, we generally do manoeuvers in Brighton Marina, and in the afternoon high-speed manoeuvers and man-over board in the open water. We do a theory session, including a passage plan and pilotage to Shoreham-by-Sea. The second day involves high-speed navigation and finding the yellow racing buoys at sea. We head up the River Adur where the strong tides are great for practicing ferry-gliding and tying moorings. The day is finished off with a lap of honour to demonstrate all the skills you  have learnt on your course.

We have two new RIBs used for Powerboat Level 2 called Sweet and Sour! They have Suzuki 90 HP engines which is ideal for this course. There may be possibilities to use our big RIBs depending on availability.

ICC (The International Certificate of Competence)

The International Certificate of Competence is issued in conformity with Resolution No. 40 of the Working Party on Inland Water Transport. The ICC is required by many European countries for the use of certain categories of pleasure boat. It is also useful in countries where compulsory certificates are required of nationals simply because officials expect to see such a certificate. You automatically qualify for your ICC on completion of the RYA powerboat level 1 and 2 course. To apply you will need a copy of the application form available from the RYA website at www.rya.org.uk.  You will need a passport photo along with either your RYA membership number or your ICC fee and your Powerboat Level 1/2 Certificate.

Course Objective: You will be a sufficient powerboater in the right conditions.
