Light Dues 

The RYA opposes the levying of light dues on recreational craft of less than 20GT.

Many recreational boaters are not dependent on the General Lighthouse Authorities’ (GLA) Aids to Navigation (AtoN) for the safe enjoyment of their sport.

Where such recreational boaters do use AtoN, it is primarily those provided by Harbour Authorities and paid for through harbour dues.

The RYA wants to achieve

• Continued non-levy of light dues on recreational craft of less than 20GT.

RYA has successfully

• Maintained the current position in which recreational craft under 20GT are not subject to light dues.

RYA position

• The RYA opposes the levying of light dues on recreational craft of less than 20GT.

Currently

All vessels of less than 20GT are exempt from light dues.
