Yesterday’s installation of the new Chief Rabbi was the first to take place for 22 and years - and the first ceremony of its kind to feature a specific Twitter element.

The last time England hosted the Ashes was more than half of Twitter’s lifetime ago, so for many UK cricket fans, the summer of 2013 was their first opportunity to taste this oldest of sporting traditions while following along on their favourite platform.

As the holy fasting month of Ramadan comes to an end, Muslims around the world have been celebrating Eid al-Fitr on Twitter.

Over the last two days (August 7 & 8) there have been more than two million mentions of the festival on the platform. We’ve seen Tweets from those celebrating Eid, as well as greetings from individuals and organisations sharing their best wishes with the Muslim community.

Tweets on the topic have come from around the world, with the five top countries for Eid-related messages being Indonesia, the USA, Malaysia, the UK and Saudi Arabia.Read more…

Only 11 people have ever officially played Doctor Who, so when the announcement of the 12th came yesterday, it set Twitter abuzz with conversation. In fact, there were more than a million mentions of the news over the course of the day.
