Singleness and marriage both have pros and cons. Some of the advantages singleness has over marriage include more flexibility with time, money, possessions and making decisions. Single adults do not have to consult a partner concerning these. They can go when, where, why, how and if they want to. Single parents, however, do have more restrictions.

Cohabitation - Unmarried-partner households

2012 - 7.8 million (15. 2 million people)
2000 - 5.5 million (11 million people)
1990 - 2.8 million (5.4 million people)

  1. Over half of all marriages are preceded by cohabitation
  2. 1100% increase since 1975 / 800% increase since 1992
  3. Half of 25 - 40 yr. olds have cohabitated (and climbing)
  4. Senior single-again adults cohabitate due financial penalty of marriage
  5. 21% of all unmarried-partner households include children
