The Notice of Race for the 2009 ISAF Team Racing World Championship, taking place in Perth, Australia from 31 January-8 February, has been published.
The eighth edition of the ISAF Team Racing World Championship will be sailed on Swan River, just 10 minutes from Perth's CBD and jointly hosted by the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and South of Perth Yacht Club. Following the successful launch of an Under 21 competition at the 2007 Team Worlds, the 2009 championship will again feature racing in both the open competition, for the ISAF Team Racing World Championship Trophy, and in an Under 21 competition for the Ciudad de Gandia Trophy.

Rupert LESLIE, event director, said, "We are delighted to host the 2009 ISAF Team Racing World Championship in its eighth edition. We are happy to welcome sailors from all around the globe to provide them the best team racing possible together with the unique hospitality of Western Australia."

The eighth edition of the will be the second hosted in the Southern Hemisphere, following on from the 2003 Worlds held in Auckland. Australia has won two medals at the championship, both of them bronze, back in 1998 and 1995. The New York Yacht Club Silver Panda team from the USA are the current holders of the ISAF Team Racing World Championship Trophy. Great Britain holds the Under 21 Trophy.

Together with the Notice of Race, the event website for the 2009 ISAF Team Racing World Championship - www.worldteamracing.org - has also been launched. The ISAF appointed Race Officials Team (16 umpires from four continents) has also been named. Alfredo RICCI from Italy will act as Chief Umpire, assisted by Chris ATKINS (GBR) as his Deputy.

Along with the 2009 ISAF Team Racing World Championship, Perth will also host the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships - anticipated to be the biggest-ever event for Olympic sailing and the principle qualification regatta for the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition.
