Wattbike announced as Official Supplier to the British Sailing Team

Indoor bike specialist in four year deal to aid sailor fitness training and testing

Wattbike today announced a four year agreement with the Royal Yachting Association to become an Official Supplier to the British Sailing Team.  The Wattbike will be used for training and testing during the next four-year competition cycle, which includes the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This new agreement with one of the most successful governing bodies in British sport and the global leader in sailing reinforces Wattbike’s position as the indoor bike of choice for elite sports organisations. The Wattbike is the only indoor bike to be endorsed by British Cycling and is used by a range of elite teams and individuals in cycling, football, rugby union, rugby league, rowing, motorsport and track & field.

Measuring over 40 performance parameters to an unrivalled level of scientific accuracy, the Wattbike enables the British Sailing Team’s Sports Science staff to significantly enhance testing and training in the pursuit of excellence for their Podium and Podium Potential programmes.  Additionally, the Wattbike will be used to assist sailors undergoing rehabilitation following injury.

Following the success of London 2012, where the British Sailing Team exceeded its medal target with an impressive five medals at the Olympic Games and two medals at the Paralympic Games, the sailors and support staff are already focused on World and European Championship success, and building towards Rio 2016.

John Wilson, Wattbike’s Sales Director, said: “We’re proud to be associated with the RYA’s British Sailing Team, an organisation that strives for excellence and delivers fantastic results at an elite level. The Wattbike will help sailors across all disciplines, from junior through to Olympic level, to prepare for the challenges in the next four-year cycle, ensuring the British Sailing Team remains the world leader. This relationship confirms Wattbike’s position as the indoor bike of choice for elite sporting organisations.”

Paul Mullan, the British Sailing Team’s Head of Sports Science and Medicine, said: “Cycling is an integral part of our sailors’ fitness programmes, so our partnership with Wattbike will be invaluable in providing accurate performance data during training.”

“Whether they’re high intensity sessions, recovery or rehabilitation rides, Wattbike’s unrivalled level of detail will ultimately aid our sailors towards improved fitness and endurance on the water, and we’re delighted to be teaming up with an industry leader which has such a thorough understanding of the requirements of our elite athletes.”
