Rolex Fastnet Campaign 2013

The Rolex Fastnet Race is the highlight of the Royal Ocean Racing Club offshore season and, at 608 miles the Rolex Fastnet is one of the worlds Classic Ocean Races attracting up to 300 entries from across the world. The Fastnet starts in Cowes and heads for the Fastnet Rock off Southern Ireland then returns to the finish in Plymouth. The race stretches both crews and boats to their limit and is a unique sailing challenge.

Competing in the Fastnet requires completion of four qualifying RORC offshore races which are integrated into our training program.

The Lagoon campaign consists of two initial training weekends, and continued coaching  over the four offshore races and into the Fastnet. In all you will receive 19 days of coaching across the campaign, and sail close to 1200 nautical miles.

If you are new to offshore yacht sailing or looking to take the next step up from club  racing, Lagoon Racing’s training program and coaching staff will give you the skills needed to race a yachts competitively.

Our program also includes an ISAF Offshore Safety Course course which is a requirement for race competitors.

Lagoon Racing’s Beneteau First yachts are fully race specified with Race sails and everything need to seriously campaign offshore.
If you want to fully immerse yourself in yacht racing and be in at the deep end, our coaching staff will give you the skills to Race.
No previous experience needed, just commitment, enthusiasm and a can do attitude.

13 & 14 APRIL 2013 -TRAINING WEEKEND No 1.
Friday night meeting at Lagoon centre in Brighton, this is a chance to meet all the team and chat over the program. 9.30am start on Saturday morning.

4 MAY 2013 - FIRST RACE -CERVANTES TROPHY RACE
Cowes - Le Havre
Meeting in Gosport - Friday night for an early start on Saturday morning off the Royal Yacht Squadron start line outside Cowes. This is a 24 - 36 hour race to La Havre - finishing in the Solent on Sunday. You will need your passport!

25 MAY 2013 - RACE TWO - MYTH OF MALHAM
Meet on Thursday night on the boat in Gosport for a start on Friday morning at 08:00  Returns on the bank holiday Monday Race start early on Friday and follows the Fastnet course out of the Solent, along the coast to Eddystone Rock off Plymouth. This Race provides the bulk of the qualifying miles needed for the Fastnet and provides a  great training platform as it covers the first part of the Fastnet course, tidal gates and headlands. This long leg also allow the team to settle in to the watch program and some focused boat speed and sail trimming coaching.

14 MAY 2013 - SECOND THREE - DE GUINGAND BOWL RACE
Cowes - Guernsey
Meeting on the boat on Friday afternoon for an evening start. This is a 24 hour race, 120 nautical miles across to Guernsey - you will need a passport.  Returning early Sunday morning to arrive back on Sunday evening.

27 JULY 2012 - CHANNEL RACE - 24 - FLEXI COURSE IN CHANNEL
Meeting on the boat in Gosport on Friday night. Cowes start on Saturday morning heading out into the Channel for a flexible course set for the conditions. Race length will be 24 hours.

SUN 11TH AUGUST - THE ROLEX FASTNET RACE -
Friday night meet on the boat in Cowes, 11am start from Cowes on the Royal Yacht Squadron line.  Following the same course out as the Myth of Malham out past Eddyson Lighthouse then on to Lands End and then across to the Fastnet Rock off Southern Ireland, returning past the Scilly Isles to finish in Plymouth.
The Skippers will attend a pre-race briefing on Friday and feed all information back to the Crew.  
Prize giving is on the Friday five days after the start. The boat will then cruise back, you are welcome to remain on the boat or head back on the train.

We will be competing in Roger Justice Trophy for the sailing school yachts
*RACE FOUR will be confirmed at the end of May 2013 and may be swapped for the     Cowes Dinard- St Malo on 12 July 2012.
