Book Description

Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.

What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan? But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.

About the Author

Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful debut May 29, 2013
By Jess
Format:Kindle Edition
This is Author Laura Howard's debut novel and seriously I am in love with her writing!! I can NOT wait for the next book! I don't care what she plans on writing! She has made me a fan of hers forever!! This book is so amazing! It's one of those that speaks so vividly in your mind that you can't help but get lost in! I was entranced by her characters and her story! We are taken into a new world that Laura Howard has dreamed up. Yes, we've read about fairy realms and such, but she has her own originality in this and it was so refreshing!
You will meet Allison. A wonderful young woman who doesn't feel that she has the choice to grow on her own. She is dealing with the burden of always taking care of her schizophrenic mother. She doesn't mind and knows that in order to do so she can't fall in love. Ethan however is very persistent and he is just the cutest thing ever!! On top of HOT of course! In fact, I'm calling dibs on my new book boyfriend!! Hahaha But there are things her mother has seen, there are secrets that have laid hidden for many years and when Allison is thrown into a whole new realm she has to come to terms that there are creatures that exist and they are about to turn her world upside down! She ends up having to fight for those she loves and it's never the end of course!!
This world that we are thrust upon is fascinating and so much fun to get lost in! You want to read this! I give this book my thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!! :) May 6, 2013

The Forgotten Ones is a well written story that grabs you from the first chapter. I was immediately pulled into Allison's world, and I empathized with her as she molded her life around her mother. I'm not into spoilers so all I will say is: prepare to be whisked away on an adventure into another world along with Allison. The author is very talented and I'm so looking forward to the next installment of this series! Wonderful!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and captivating. April 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
5 STARS!

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

*This Review contains Spoilers*

I honestly don't know whether I'll be able to find the right words to express just how much I loved `The Forgotten Ones', but I'll give it a shot. But just in case my ramblings for adoration for this book aren't coherent I'll make it clear now: BEST BOOK EVER!

From having the story told from Allison's point of view, I felt it strengthened the connection the readers have with her. Reading from Allison's perspective of her mother's illness and her confusion for her feelings for Ethan made me admire her devotion to her mother who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and we can accept why she doesn't want to let Ethan into her life.

The opening paragraph drew me in straight away and the glimpse we are given of Allison's mother holding her Violin with blank eyes is beautifully haunting. I loved the way that Laura Howard was able to bring both sadness, beauty and pain all into the descriptions of the schizophrenic episodes. It reminds us that although there was a great deal of pain and heartbreak that Allison has to deal with by caring for her mother, there is still brief moments when her mother smiles, or plays a jolly tune on the Violin that reminds Allison what she is working for. Whilst I loved the relationship between Allison and Ethan and can't wait to see it progress in the next book (pretty please :D ) I was proud of Allison's devotion to her mother, and knew that without that element to her, Allison would not be as loveable a character as she was.

The imagery of the fairy land (Tír na n'Óg) was stunning and beautifully woven into the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful June 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have to say that I loved this book!! The setting was flowing and magical. I could completely picture everything as if I was watching a movie in my head. The characters were very lovable! Every page gave a little bit more but also left a bit of mystery to it. I just couldn't put it down! The terminology was a little confusing right at first but quickly became second nature. The only bad thing was that it ended too soon and now I am dying for more!!

This was a fun book to read! A really good summer read too! We enter a world with a group of people who have been long forgotten. Magic exists and Allison realizes that she has a part in all this, espically when her mother is kidnapped.

Laura Howard has a way with words. The story flows so well from chapter to chapter, and you can't put it down. The characters are believable and Laura Howard describes the places in such detail that you are able to picture it all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just couldnt get enough April 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This one I fell in love with the cover and then the author contacted me for a tour which was even better! I then started hearing about all over Facebook and having friends asking me if I had heard of it. Which for something that is self published you dont usually hear. (Hope to you Laura that it gets picked up by one of the big 6) So at the first opportunity that the author announced that it was almost done and that I could read and review it. I just about died! I dropped everything I was reading at the time to zoom through this one. I even took it to Universal with me via my ipad. and I must say that from the beginning to the ending I was hooked. AL is just a good character she is no nonsense she sees the problem sees the solution and goes for it non stop. The other thing that I loved about this book was that the characters were older. Still young but not 14-16, it was a nice break. I was so blown away by the mythology she used (not telling) that It just make me love the book even more. I so cant wait for the next book as the ending will leave you screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I wish it was longer but for this book being this short it might appeal to more people since it is a fast read.
