    Trinity CollegeBackground

Fáilte Ireland, Dublin City Council and the Office of Public Works are developing a Dublin City Discovery Trail from Trinity College to Kilmainham. This ancient highway contains a wealth of historic assets and contemporary attributes, including three of the most visited attractions in Ireland.

The Dubline aims to bring together all the cultural, business, community and public stakeholders along the route to provide visitors to Dublin with a unique cultural experience.

The concept is a connection between places, people and pasts – a route that facilitates the flow of people, goods and ideas.

    Aims of developing the trail

    • Improve the visitor experience and increase satisfaction with the Dublin City experience

    • Produce an integrated product that positions Dublin as a city experience rich in heritage and culture

    • Increase visitor numbers to attractions and businesses along the route

    • Provide opportunities for development of further packages and communications to attract more trade

    • Facilitate partnerships that will educate the visitor and community

    • Culturally animate the route to appeal to a wider group of visitors

    Development

The Dubline route will provide the basis for identifying secondary routes, all delivering an enhanced experience for visitors to the city. A steering group will expand over the coming year to include other city representatives and tourism interests, attractions and communities.

Four interventions have been chosen by the steering group to start the project:

    1. A new visitor information and animation centre – with information on the the attractions along the trail, the history of the buildings and the various shops, restaurants, hotels, pubs in the immediate area. This would be delivered using the very latest technology such as touchscreens, video walls and interactive applications.

    2. New route signage.

    3. New route interpretation.

    4. Key public realm works.

These initiatives will be supported with a number of soft supports aimed at creating a more dynamic and exciting visitor experience, including:

    • Fáilte Ireland business supports.

    • Fáilte Ireland marketing.

    • Fáilte Ireland guide training.

    • Fáilte Ireland key visitor centre workshops.
