Most successful Youth Worlds ever comes to a close 
281 of the worlds best youth sailors gathered for the final time to cheer the medal winners and to celebrate the end of a very successful Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships 2006 (Thursday 20th July).

Gold medals galore 
The final day of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships brought surprise wins for a few nations, with one race sailed in the early morning, all the teams were back on dry land quickly to celebrate their massive achievements.

Youth Worlds welcomes Royal guest 
Competitors at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships had a regal treat on Tuesday, when HRH The Princess Royal came to see the action at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

APP sailor Arantza Gumucio Jaras makes Chile proud 
Arantza Gumucio Jaras, aged 16 from Chile, is competing at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships in the Laser Radial fleet. Supported by ISAF’s Athlete Participation Programme (APP), which provides grants and event coaching, this is Arantza’s second ISAF Youth Worlds following an appearance last year in Busan, Korea where she finished ninth overall.

APP Sailors Find Their Feet 
As the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship heads towards a conclusion in Weymouth, Great Britain, the competitors from some of sailing’s developing nations on the ISAF Athlete Participation Programme are reaching the end of a fantastic and memorable learning experience.

All to play for! 
There is all to play for coming into the last day of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships, as the extremely variable weather caused many a place change. Discards are proving to be the major focus today as some classes have completed nine races giving them two discards to play with, while others are just on the cusp with only eight races completed, meaning they get just one discard.

Battle for the Volvo Trophy heats up 
As well as the gold medals for individual excellence, a national battle is also underway this week at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in Weymouth, Great Britain. The Volvo Trophy will be awarded to the best performing nation and with mere days until the closing ceremony, it is shaping up to be one of the closest run contests in recent years, with Australia just holding the advantage.

Ontario, Canada, what’s in the pipeline 
With the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships 2006 in its final days, Media Volunteer, Hazel Shaw, caught up with Tim Brown, Chief Executive of the Canadian Yachting Association who will be hosting the event in 2007, to speak about his impressions of the event.

Building on Busan 
One year on from the Championship in Busan, Korea, the Asian challenge continues to go from strength to strength at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship. Asian nations feature amoongst the top ten in several of the fleets, with medals firmly on the mind of some of the continent's brightest sailing stars.

Tactical conditions at the Youth Worlds 
Light winds plagued the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship on day five, with most of the sailors waiting for the fickle breeze to fill in outside the breakwater. When the breeze filled in, the RS:X class started the first of two races in front of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

Lay day inspires competitors at the Youth Worlds 
Bright sunshine, warm temperatures and a festive atmosphere met sailors attending the lay day at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship. With little wind blowing across the Weymouth and Portland waters, competitors were met with a host of activities with which to fill their day.

Linares carries on her domination 
Day three of racing at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships proved a disappointment for many, as fickle winds were forecast. This forced many races to be postponed and in the late afternoon, finally abandoned for the day. But the RS:X’s enjoyed a different fate inside Weymouth Bay, with the experienced race team managing to fit in two races, between the fluky conditions.

Galdos makes his debut 
Alvaro Galdos from Peru is part of the International Sailing Federation's Athlete Participation Programme. Galdos, the only competitor from Peru at the event is competing on the RS:X, a board that he is using for the first time ever at this event

Race Day 3 - Still sunny with a little less breeze 
0830 - The sun is still shining here at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. The weather forecast indicates above average temperatures and light winds for the next few days..... but at least it is not raining!

Tight at the top - Day Two report 
Day two of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships saw the sailors competing in perfect conditions, with winds averaging 15 knots all afternoon for the young talent in Weymouth Bay. Read on for the full story of a superb day’s worth of racing.

Let the games begin! - Day One report 
Friday saw the start of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in bright sunshine and moderate breezes for all classes, with the 281 competitors from 63 nations battling it out in Weymouth Bay. After the inspirational Official Opening Ceremony last night all the young sailors were set up for a big first day of competition.

Race Day 2 - Fresh Breeze and Sunny Skies again! 
0800 - Conditions here in Weymouth today are very similar to what the sailors experienced yesterday. Three races were completed on all courses in what can only be described as Champagne Sailing! Check out the photos in the Gallery, which is regularly updated.......

Provisional Results Now Available! 
As the first race for all fleets has been completed, results are coming in thick and fast. France take the early lead in the boys RS:X fleet with Poland at the top of the girls fleet. Australia and Sweden lead the Radial and Laser Standard fleet respectively. Keep an eye on the results page for more updates!

World Championships Kicks off with a BANG!! 
Over 1000 spectators lined the Weymouth Seafront to cheer on competitors from over 60 nations, as they walked along the front to their opening ceremony at Weymouth Pavilion last night. 600 local primary school children joined the procession, waving flags and cheering their favourite teams on.
The cermony closed with an explosive firework display.

Last reminder! 
Please re read the NOR and SI that appear in the Information section of this web site. Make sure that for your CLASS you are bringing the correct equipment, it is not ALL supplied by the manufacturers and we want you to sail, not go looking for a tiller instead.
Also if you have a laptop with a wireless connection, then you will be able to log on at the WPNSA. We are setting up an Internet Cafe but you still may want to bring your own.

1 - Medical treatment permissions form - download from the "information" page
2 - flight details - so that we can arrange your collection from the airport
3 - Digital photograph - for your accreditation passes

Those that have completed the pre-registration requirements will be able to collect their joining packs on arrival in Weymouth and will have access to their sailing equipment at 10am on Wednesday 12th July.

Those that have NOT been able to fulfill the pre-registration requirements will not be able to get their joining packs and will have to wait to collect their sailing equipment until all the necessary registration documents are completed.

Record entry for Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2006!! 
Around 250 of the world’s best young sailors from a record 62 nations will flock to Great Britain this July for the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2006.

Home of the 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy will host the 36th edition of this premier youth event from 12-21 July, with potential young Olympians hoping that a podium finish at this summer’s regatta could translate to an Olympic medal at the very same venue in six years’ time.

GILL SIGNS UP FOR VOLVO YOUTH SAILING
ISAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nottingham, UK/3rd March 2006
Gill has joined a prestigious group of sponsors and suppliers of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2006 as Official Clothing Supplier to the Championships.

The company is supplying a team uniform to the 120-strong volunteer shore team as well as Gill-branded racing bibs for the 300 competitors. These young athletes are competing from fifty nations in the most important event on the International Youth Sailing calendar at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy from 13-20 July 2006.
