Bermuda Race Week

All the keel boats got in one race on the third day of racing in Bacardi's Bermuda International Invitational Race Week.
Bruce Dyson (Marblehead MA) won the five -race "A" Series on the IOD's today coming second in the shortened light air race. The J's and I.O.D.s sailed only 1.5 laps and Dyson managed to come 2nd and overtake yesterdays leader Courtenay Jenkins who posted a 4th today. Dyson sailed the series with a 4,5,1,3,2 and dropped the 5. Dyson and Jenkins are in 1st and 2nd for the Vrengen Gold Cup for the 9-race series.

As the Etchells Class fought to finish within their 2-hour time limit on the course shortened from 6 to 4 legs, an observer said one of the spinnakers drifting downwind looked like a wilted geranium. Bermudian Peter Bromby, now with scores of 4,1,1 continued setting the pace getting around before the wind totally shut out some competitors. John Kenerson 5,3,2(Virginia Beach VA) moved into 2nd and Andreas Lewin dropped back into 3rd when he failed to finish within the time limit.

Last years J-24 champion, Sean McDermott now 5,1,4,1,1 (Halifax NS) held onto his lead with a 1st today. Once again he got a clear start at the committee boat and went right for clean air and more pressure. Coming into the finish McDermott looked like he had his own wind machine. Following in 2nd today and in cumulative total is Don Wagoner (Phoenixville PA) and in 3rd is Stuart Jardine (Milford-on-Sea, Hants, UK).

On course Bravo the wind didn't cooperate at all. First the breeze was shifty· what there was of it, moving from NW to NE and back. The committee delayed the start first. Then when the wind totally died, they cancelled racing for the day.
