ISAF Sailing World Championships 2007
Cascais, Portugal

'The Wind Is Calling' and the countdown has started. Exactly one month from now the 2007 ISAF Sailing World Championships will bring together the Olympic Classes in their biggest-ever event from 28 June-13 July in Cascais, Portugal. Eleven World Championship titles and 75% of the national places at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are at stake.

The numbers speak for themselves: over 1,600 sailors, 75 nations, approximately 1,000 boats, 11 events, 5 race courses, 287 races, already more than 140 accredited journalists, 110 committee boats, 300 coach boats, 493 members of the organization (222 of whom are volunteers) and an investment of Euro 16 million.

The scale of the ISAF Sailing World Championships has surpassed all expectations and placed the event as the biggest ever for the Olympic Classes and amongst the largest ever organized in Portugal, 'This will be the second championship where all the classes will be competing together. The Cascais event has the particularity of bringing together all the sailors within a single place and deciding on 75% of the places for the 2008 Beijing Olympics,' said Vasco LYNCE, President of Portugal Vela 2007, SA, the organizing body.

From August 2004, the date Cascais was chosen to hold the Championships, until now, the organization has been working to make sure that on the 28 June the Championships sets sail at cruise liner speed, 'At this moment the infrastructure is ready and we are waiting expectantly for the arrival of the teams. We are confident that the 2007 ISAF Sailing World Championships will be a success,' concluded LYNCE.

About The 2007 ISAF Worlds

The 2007 ISAF Sailing World Championships will take place from 28 June-13 July in Cascais, Portugal. 'The Wind Is Calling' is the official motto for the 2007 Worlds. The Championships are the principal qualification regatta for the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition, with 75% of all national places to be decided.

All Media wishing to attend the Championships will require accreditation. The Media Accreditation application form is available online at the Championship website www.cascaisworlds2007.com and should be completed by 31 May. After 31 May, on-site accreditations only will be available.
