Winning a gold medal at a major Event is no small feat, but Perth 2011 Emerging Nations Programme Camp participant, Helema Williams, has recently done exactly that!
The Emerging Nations Programme (ENP) is already proving its worth, after Camp 1 attendee
Helema Williams, of the Cook Islands, went on to gold medal success in her chosen Olympic sailing class - the Laser Radial - at the Pacific Mini Games 2009.
Williams was invited to Perth in July-August this year to increase her sailing skills and knowledge under Head ENP Coaches 2000 Sydney Olympic Games gold medallist
Belinda Stowell and acclaimed sailing coach and former world #1 Arthur Brett.
She was originally identified as one of the top female Laser Radial sailors from the Cook Islands and recently proved that her time at the Camp had paid off.
Camp 1 compatriot,
Peter Henry, also showed the Camp had had a positive effect on attendees, when he walked away with a bronze medal in the Laser at the Pacific Mini Games 2009, held in Akiami, Aitutaki.
Perth 2011 and Head Emerging Nations Programme Coaches Stowell and Brett congratulate Helema Williams and Peter Henry on their outstanding success!
