Canadian Yachting Association News
Hamilton, Ontari, Canada

Paul VAYDA of the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club announced this week that the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) has chosen The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club (RHYC) to host two major sailing regattas. In 2006, RHYC will host the CYA 16 and Under Eastern Intermediates from 14 -16 July, whilst in 2007 the RHYC will host the CYA Youth National Championship from 7-14 August.
These regattas will bring more than 160 young Canadian sailors and their coaches and parents and families to Hamilton in 2006 and more than 300 in 2007.

VAYDA said that the experience that RHYC has in regatta organization makes it an ideal choice to host these two important events on the sailing calendar. Sailors from all provinces are expected to descend on Hamilton to race in the following classes, Optimist, Byte, Laser, Laser Radial, Laser II, 29er and Club 420.

In 2006 RHYC will combine the CYA 16 and Under Eastern Intermediates event with RHYC's annual Fogh-Boorman Regatta. Ontario Sailing has announced that their Under 16 regatta will also be held during this event.

In addition to these two important youth sailing events RHYC recently announced that the club had been chosen to host the 2008 Shark World Championships (date to be announced). The Shark keelboat was designed and first built in Ontario in 1959. Today, sailors from Europe, Canada and the United States enjoy stiff competition in these 24 foot yachts.
