The 41st ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship has officially opened after last nights opening ceremony.
All of the sailors gathered in downtown Zadar and were treated to an opening ceremony they will remember for the rest of their lives with live dance shows, fireworks and traditional Croatian cultural acts.
Fifty eight nations are sailing in Zadar and one individual from each nation came into the venue via a rib flying their flag before pouring water from their home shores into a communal pot that was poured into Adriatic Sea.
Speeches were given by the Mayor of Zadar, the Chairman of Sailing Club Uskok and ISAF Vice President Nazli Imre (TUR) before the raising of the championship flag.
Sailing commences today at 12:00 local time and the south westerly breeze is at 6 knots in the morning and will pick up to 10 knots in the afternoon.
Sailing begins on Saturday 9 July with 12 races scheduled until Friday 15 July.
