Chinese Yachting Association Holds Senior Race Official Seminar
Chennai, India

The Chinese Yachting Association (CYA) held a Senior Race Official Seminar from 5 - 7 July in Suzhou, a city near the beautiful Tai Lake in Jiangsu Province.
Attendees came from all around the nation including some of the most experienced race officials who had served as the Race Officers and Judges at national, continental and international sailing events in China throughout the last four years.

Three CYA instructors, Qu Chun, Shao Xianli and Zhu Xinjian gave their presentations in the seminar on the topics of;

Race Management; Rule 42 on the water judges; Medal race operation; Protests; Case studies; ISAF race management policy and ISAF Race Official management.

Through the group discussion on ISAF Q&A cases, all the race officials shared their knowledge and experience in rules, event management, study cases that had happened at all level events.

After the classroom instruction and discussion, there was a written test for all the attendees.

Yao Xinpei, General Secretary of CYA and the Asian Sailing Federation, explained the growth of sailing activities in China after the 2008 Games, and that the CYA will make an effort to develop and recruit race officials and help to promote sailing to become one of the most important sports in China through more high level events.

With more highly skilled race officials and young coaches, sailors will have more opportunity to improve their skills and tactics, and have more fun in sailing. Because the reality is that there are more and more sailing facilities built along the long Chinese coastline, marinas, yachting clubs, sailing schools, so more sailing events are being held that attract more media focus internationally.

"This seminar is a key step for developing more race officers and judges in China."

"We want to make a leading race official team in Asia with the ability to host more higher level international events."
said Mr Yao.
