Rolex Sydney Hobart Race
Hobart, Tasmania

Alex Whitworth normally celebrates New Year's Eve at sea with his crew but this year, he has joined the remainder of the fleet in Constitution Dock more than a day before tomorrow night's New Year celebrations.

The last yacht in the 57-strong fleet contesting this year's Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, Berrimilla crossed the finish line off Hobart's historic Battery Point at 12.23pm this afternoon.

"Sorry to keep you waiting," Whitworth laughed as he was clapped into the dock by well-wishers and sailors.

Apart from the two retirements at the start on Boxing Day, December 26, when the fleet left Sydney Harbour, all 55 yachts have finished the 630 nautical mile passage and race organisers are delighted with the outcome

International Jury disqualifies two yachts

An International Yachting Jury today disqualified the French/Australian entry Peugeot Racing and the Sydney yacht Loki following protest hearings into race collisions shortly before and soon after the Boxing Day start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The hearings in Hobart this afternoon centered on collisions between Loki and the Queensland yacht Trumpcard, resulting in the retirement of Trumpcard, and between Peugeot Racing and the Tasmanian boat Valheru, which saw Valheru also forced to retire from the race.

Earlier in the day, the jury lodged its own protest against all four yachts after ruling that their protests were invalid on the grounds that they had not followed immediate protest procedures as required by the international racing rules.

The International Jury comprised Ronnie McCracken (HKG) (Chairman), John Kirkjian (AUS), Rob Green (NZL), Don Brooke (NZL), and Tony Mooney (AUS).
